We start this walk in Curral dos Romeiros, Monte, a place where you will have a privileged view over Funchal’s Bay, at six hundred meters above sea level, throw Laurissilva Forest. In six kilometers you will have the opportunity to observe many species of plants, some of them endemic from Madeira, Eucalyptus and Tree Heaths as well.
We will start going very early so we can appreciate the beautiful sunrise in the highest mountains of the island. Once we see the whole sun coming out in the morning then we start the walking.This trail takes place in the immense and magnificent mountains of Madeira. Along the way you can enjoy the wonderful landscapes composed by the formidable rock formations, sometimes covered by the clouds and the villages that can be seen in the distance. Stop once in a while and feel the great feeling to be closer to the sky.Also in this journey you can visit the three highest peaks of Madeira: Pico do Areeiro, Pico das Torres and Pico Ruivo.This is a mountain trail so it requires some physical preparation and endurance for hikers, who are faced with many ups and downs. However, the effort required is offset by extraordinary views that the walk provides.Note: Please bring proper warm clothing, proper shoes for hike and water.
This route has its start at Encumeada and takes hikers through a variety of landscapes and magnificent views, until your reach Lombo do Mouro, first passing by the well-known Pináculo (Pinnacle) and walking along the Levada do Norte and Levada da Serra.Over its nearly 17 km, the route has several tunnels and its altitude varies between 930 and 1530 meters requiring sometimes some stamina. However, the stupendous scenery and dense vegetation with endemic species of the Madeira Laurel forest far outweigh the effort required. Along the way you will pass through a large lagoon as well as numerous waterfalls.On reaching the area of the Pinnacle the views are stunning in fine weather, highlighting certain points, such as the valley of Ribeira Brava and the two highest peaks of Madeira (Pico Ruivo with 1861m and Pico do Areeiro with 1817m).Resume: Start/End: Encumeada Altitude Mín/Máx: 937 m/1488 m Distance: 17 Km Duration: 5-6 hours
We will start at Mercado dos Lavradores, an important reference to all of those visiting us. It is our main local farm market where we find regional products for the taste of all tourist wanting the necessary tranquility for shopping. We will continue in the Old Town walking and seeing a bit of story of the first settlers and how Madeira become an important place throughout the centuries. We will also visit Churchill Viewpoint with a privileged view over Camara de Lobos, the famous British prime minister from the 2nd World War was here in Madeira and we will show you where he stayed and where he painted his famous painting of Camara de Lobos.We finish our tour at the Ruins of Ponte dos Socorridos once one of the major bridges connecting the city of Funchal from the West side of the Island.
This trail starts in a small village, called Ilha, and lets you reach Pico Ruivo, the highest of Madeira Island, situated at 1862 meters. The feeling of being at the top of the island is simply amazing and the scenery is fantastic. Everything looks tiny and at the same time sublime.The path is mostly characterized by an elevation of 1376 meters, so the climb should be done calmly. Enjoy the magnificence of the landscape that will undoubtedly compensate for the effort.In Pico Ruivo you can admire other peaks surrounding you, especially Pico do Areeiro, the third highest peak with 1817 meters.
